KNABE, MASON & HAMLIN, AND STEINWAY RESEARCH

For a minimum donation  to Period Piano Center of $100 for basic email consultation and the first 30 minutes of work, we can often perform research and answer many questions.   We are especially able to help with questions regarding the first decades of production of Steinway, Mason and Hamlin, Knabe and Chickering.  We will examine the production books and available catalogs.

For Steinway we recommend also consulting with Steinway and Sons in New York.  A letter may be issued to you with Steinway’s record of the date of sale, exact model or style description, etc.   Prepare to pay a reasonable fee for their service, and wait an appropriate time for their history department to complete your request.   None of the manufacturers mentioned above (or their successor owners)  provides extensive information about their antique instruments, and due to our specialized study of these pianos we are usually able to significantly augment any information provided by those companies.

This service covers only the first several decades of each manufacturers’ production.
